1) Golfer’s elbow

Golfer’s elbow is common among individuals who play sports like badminton and golf as they may overuse the forearm. It is characterised by pain in the inner aspect of the elbow and pain with the flexion of the wrist is common.

2)Tennis elbow

Tennis elbow often occurs with the repetitive use of the arm, especially with a clenched fist. It is characterised by pain in the outer aspect of the elbow and pain with the extension of the wrist is common.

3) Nerve Injury

Nerve injury is usually the result of excessive valgus (turned outward) stress on the elbow during repeated throwing or a direct hit to the nerve within the cubital tunnel (“hitting the funny bone”).

Symptoms of nerve injury include tingling and numbness in the ring and pinky fingers which may occur during or after throwing or with prolonged bending of the elbow.

4) Trauma/ Fractures/ Dislocation

Elbow fractures usually involve a fall onto the outstretched arm or direct trauma to the elbow. With elbow dislocations, there may be associated nerve and/or blood vessel injuries.

Physiotherapy following a fracture ensures good bone union and a better long-term return to full activity much quicker.
